Privacy Policy
Effective May 6, 2026
The short version, for parents
- Color Kids does not collect any personal information from children. Period. No names, no email, no phone, no location, no contacts, no advertising IDs, no behavioral tracking.
- All coloring pages your child creates or colors stay on the device. Nothing is uploaded to a Color Kids server.
- When your child uses the AI feature to generate a new coloring page, the typed subject (and only that subject) is sent to OpenAI for safety screening and image generation. No identifier about your child is sent with it.
- The app shows no third-party advertising and includes no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- Parents can request deletion of any data tied to their child at any time by emailing hello@colorkidsapp.com.
Who we are
Color Kids ("the app", "we", "us") is published by the Color Kids team. You can reach us any time at hello@colorkidsapp.com. This policy is written to comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Apple's Made for Kids requirements, and to be clear enough that a parent can read it in a couple of minutes.
What we collect from children
Nothing. Color Kids does not collect, store, or share personal information from children. Specifically, we do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, contacts, photos, precise or approximate location, persistent device identifiers (IDFA, advertising IDs, fingerprinting), behavioral data, or audio/video. We do not require an account, sign-in, or any profile setup.
What information the app does handle
The app handles three small categories of data — none of which identifies your child:
- The subject typed for AI generation. When your child taps "create your own" and types a subject (for example, "a smiling pig"), the typed text is sent to OpenAI to be screened and turned into a coloring page. The text is not associated with a name, account, or device identifier.
- Coloring pages and saved work — stored on the device only. Pages your child colors or generates live in the app's local storage on your iPhone or iPad. They are not uploaded to a Color Kids server. The only way a page leaves your device is if you choose to Share, AirDrop, save to Photos, or print it yourself.
- In-app purchase receipts. If you buy AI generation credits, Apple processes the transaction. We receive a receipt from Apple confirming the purchase. We never see or store payment card details.
Apple may also collect crash logs and aggregated usage diagnostics if you opted in to share them at the iOS level. Those reports go to Apple, not to us.
How AI is used
Color Kids uses artificial intelligence to turn the subject your child types ("a unicorn dancing with a pig", "a triceratops in a hat") into a black-and-white coloring page. Specifically:
- The text prompt is sent to OpenAI for safety moderation and for image generation. OpenAI is our processor for this feature.
- OpenAI returns a generated image, which we save locally on your device for your child to color.
- Per OpenAI's API policies, prompts and generated images sent through their API are not used to train OpenAI's models.
- We do not attach a name, email, account ID, or other personal identifier to the prompts we send.
AI-generated images are produced by a model and may sometimes be unexpected. Color Kids applies content moderation before generating, but we recommend a parent or guardian be available when a child is using the AI feature.
Children's privacy and COPPA
Color Kids is designed for children aged 4–10 and is published as a Made for Kids app on the App Store. Because the app is directed to children under 13, we follow the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Apple's Kids Category rules.
That means, concretely:
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from any child.
- We do not serve third-party advertising.
- We do not include third-party analytics SDKs, attribution SDKs, or behavioral tracking of any kind.
- We do not use social-network sign-in or share content to social networks.
- We do not attempt to contact children outside the app.
- OpenAI, the only third party that receives data from the app, is acting as our service provider and is contractually restricted to processing the prompt for the limited purpose of generating and moderating a coloring page. We send only the typed subject — never a child's name, identifier, or any other personally identifying field.
Parental rights and deletion requests
If you are a parent or legal guardian, you have the right at any time to:
- Review any information related to your child's use of the app.
- Request deletion of any information we hold that may be associated with your child.
- Refuse further collection or use of your child's information by stopping use of the AI feature, or by deleting the app, which removes all locally-stored data.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@colorkidsapp.com. We respond to verifiable parental requests within a reasonable time (typically a few business days). Because we do not maintain accounts for children and do not store coloring data on our servers, in many cases there is simply nothing for us to delete on our side — uninstalling the app removes everything.
In-app purchases
Color Kids may offer optional in-app purchases (for example, additional AI generation credits). Purchases are handled by Apple StoreKit and require the parent's Apple ID authentication (Face ID, Touch ID, or password) before any charge is made — Apple's standard purchase flow acts as the parental gate. Apple's privacy policy applies to the transaction. We never see or store your card number.
Data storage and security
Coloring pages your child creates and saves live in the app's storage on your device. They are not uploaded to a Color Kids server unless you choose to share them yourself (for example, by tapping Share or AirDrop).
We use Apple's standard transport security (HTTPS) for any network request the app makes.
Third-party services
The app relies on the following third parties to function:
- OpenAI — AI image generation and content moderation. See OpenAI's privacy policy.
- Apple — App Store distribution, in-app purchases, and (if you've enabled it) crash diagnostics.
Your choices
You can:
- Delete saved coloring pages from inside the app.
- Delete the app to remove all locally-stored data.
- Disable AI generation by simply not using the "create your own" feature; the bundled coloring pages work without any network call.
- Manage or cancel any active in-app subscription through your Apple ID's Subscriptions settings.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, when appropriate, surface a notice in the app. Continued use of Color Kids after a change means you accept the updated policy.
